Welcome to Thrif!

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Thrif platform (the "Platform"), which includes our website (thrif.store) and our Instagram account (@thrifstoreza). By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Definitions

Seller: An individual who submits items for sale on the Platform.

Buyer: An individual who purchases items on the Platform.

Item: Any article of clothing, accessory, or other good offered for sale on the Platform.

Reference Number: A unique identifier assigned to each Item.

Payment Gateway: A secure third-party checkout page managed via WigWag.

2. Using the Platform

2.1 Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of South Africa to use the Platform as either a Buyer or a Seller.

2.2 Seller Requirements
To sell on the Platform, you must complete a Seller Form, which will capture your contact details, item collection details, payout information, and unsold/unsellable items preference.

2.3 Buyer Requirements
To purchase on the Platform, you must be able to communicate via Instagram Direct Messages ("DMs"). You will be required to pay via our secure Payment Gateway, which will capture your contact details and item delivery details.

2.4 Prohibited Activities
You may not use the Platform for any illegal or unauthorised purpose. You also agree not to:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations.
  • Infringe on the intellectual property rights of others.
  • Transmit any harmful, defamatory, or obscene content.
  • Interfere with the operation of the Platform.
  • Use the Platform for any commercial purposes without our express written consent.

3. Item Submission and Acceptance

3.1 Items We Accept
We only accept items that meet our high-quality standards and are free of major imperfections. Acceptable items include clothing, accessories, and other goods that fall within the conditions and categories listed below:

  • Have been purchased within the past 5 years
  • Washed and fully dry
  • Include a label (includes brand, size, washing/care instructions)
  • Do not have imperfections including rips, tears, pilling, fading, shrinkage, or blemishes
  • Have tags on if they are new

Fit the following categories:

  • Clothing
  • Swimwear
  • Shoes
  • Belts
  • Hats/caps
  • Handbags

3.2 Items We Do Not Accept
We do not accept items that do not meet our high-quality standards and have major imperfections. We do not accept items that fall within the conditions and categories listed below:

  • Older than 5 years
  • Wet or damp
  • Dirty or unwashed items
  • Missing labels or sizing information
  • Show signs of over wear including rips, tears, pilling, fading, shrinkage, discolouration or blemishes
  • Stained, stretched, or broken in any way (missing buttons, broken zip, loose threads)
  • Items with inappropriate text or graphics
  • Inauthentically branded
  • Promotional items (assumed to be free e.g. branded bags/t-shirts)
  • Items lower than R100 in value (can’t be priced at R100)
  • Anything else not listed above in ‘Items We Accept’

We do not accept items in the following categories:

  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Jewellery (needs to be new and sealed in original packaging)

We do not accept the following brands:

  • Mr. Price (oakridge, RT)
  • Ackermans
  • Shein
  • Temu
  • Contempo
  • The Fix
  • Pick n Pay (real basics, real women etc.)
  • PEP
  • Edgars (free2bu, Kelso)
  • Tango
  • Fashion Express
  • Unrecognisable brands that appear low quality

3.3 Quality Check and Cleaning
We reserve the right to clean items according to standard practices. All items will be inspected for quality and may be rejected at our sole discretion.

3.4 Reference Numbers and Descriptions
We will assign a unique reference number to each accepted item and create a detailed description for our Instagram page.

4. Images

4.1 Photography
We will take high-quality photos of accepted items and edit them to ensure consistency. Photos will be cropped to specific dimensions and uploaded to our Google Drive to then be used on our Instagram page.

5. Buyer Payments

5.1 Payment Gateway
We use WigWag to handle all payments. WigWag provides a secure checkout page where you can enter your payment information and delivery details.

6. Collection and Delivery

6.1 Courier Services
We use PUDO and Pargo for collections from sellers and deliveries to buyers, nationwide.

6.2 Collection Fees
Collection fees are covered by the seller. The fees are based on the package size, which comes from our courier partners PUDO and Pargo.

6.3 Delivery Fees
Delivery fees will be covered by the buyer and will be included in the total payment amount. Fees may vary depending on the price of the item, the location of the buyer, or other factors, at our discretion.

6.4 Packaging
All items that are collected and delivered should be in suitable packaging that complies with the requirements of the Courier Service.

6.5 Courier Scheduling
We will contact you via WhatsApp or email to determine a convenient date and time.

6.6 Failed Deliveries
Thrif will not be held liable for any items that fail to be delivered to Buyers. Items will be returned to Thrif, the sender, and held until such time that a rescheduled delivery can be arranged. All fees for a rescheduled delivery will be at the Buyer’s expense.

7. Returns and Refunds

7.1 No Return Policy
Currently, we do not offer returns or refunds to Buyers for any reason.

8. Seller Dashboard

8.1 Dashboard
Sellers will be provided with an online dashboard to track the status of their items, payout details and other relevant information. A link to this dashboard will be shared with sellers via WhatsApp / email after successful collection of their items.

9. Seller Commission

9.1 Commission Fees
Fees are set at 30% of the total amount made on items sold.

10. Seller Payouts

10.1 Payout Schedule
Sellers will be paid 31 days after Thrif receives their items and said items have gone live for sale on our Instagram page. Sellers will be paid via EFT to the bank account details provided in the Seller Form. Payments will reflect the total item amount minus our commission fees for all sold items during that period.

10.2 Payment Confirmation
Sellers will be sent a proof of payment via WhatsApp / email once their payout is complete. This proof of payment will typically include details such as:

  • Seller name
  • The date of the payment
  • The total amount paid
  • Please note: It may take a few business days for the funds to reflect in a Seller’s bank account.

11. Consignment Period and Unsold Items

11.1 Consignment Period
Items will be listed for sale on the Platform for a maximum of 30 days.

11.2 Unsold Items
If any items remain unsold after 30 days, we will follow your preference as indicated in the seller form:

  • Donation: We will donate unsold items to a charity partner of our choosing.
  • Return: We will return unsold items to the same address as used for item collection.

11.3 Early Return Requests
We will not accept requests to return items before the 30 day consignment period ends.

12. Managing Support and Complaints

12.1 Contact Channels
You can reach us with any questions or concerns via email, Instagram DM, or WhatsApp.

12.2 Automated Responses
We may utilise automated responses to your inquiries and direct you to our FAQs whenever possible.

13. Operating Hours

13.1 Client Services
Our operating hours for all client-facing services are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

14. Termination

14.1 Termination by Us
We reserve the right to terminate your access to the Platform for any reason, at any time, without notice.

14.2 Termination by You
You may cease using the Platform at any time.

15. Disclaimer

15.1 The Platform is provided "as is" and without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We disclaim all warranties, including, but not limited to, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

16. Limitation of Liability

16.1 We will not be liable for any damages arising out of your use of the Platform. This includes, but is not limited to, direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

17. Governing Law

17.1 These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of South Africa.

18. Dispute Resolution 

18.1 Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms will be settled by binding arbitration in Cape Town, South Africa.

19. Entire Agreement 

19.1 These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of the Platform.

20. Amendment

20.1 We may amend these Terms at any time by posting the amended terms on the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after the amended terms are posted will constitute your acceptance of the amended terms.

21. Severability

21.1 If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, such provision shall be struck and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
